My job so far and stuff

Hey peoples – it’s jessem. Just a note about some recent happenings. I had my first night and morning of work last night and this morning. They both went pretty well. Last night started off a little silly because I walked in and they said there had been a lot of cancellations so I could go home if I wanted. I said come on now, be reasonable… It’s my first night and I want to learn something. So Sean told Samson to train me and some other girl a bit before letting us do some work. Midway through the training it got really busy so we had to get down to business. I started just running the pass (carrying plates and trays of food from downstairs up to the tables when they were ready), which was a good way to start because it helped me learn some dishes. Then Samson told me to wait one table, so I started doing that but I had no idea about what to recommend and it was their first time there, so I was kinda screwed. I just made some stuff up and they gave me a small tip so it all worked out in the end. It would have been fine if I was just waiting tables or just running food but they wanted me to do both so it got pretty hectic because I’d keep running from upstairs to downstairs to check the kitchen and back. I learned a lot and it was fun, though. I finished around 10:30 and ran to catch a bus.

As I was getting to the bus station… the bus I needed was just leaving. Since it was 10:30pm, I knew there wouldn’t be another one for a while, so I took off running after the bus – in my dress shoes, pants, and with my backpack. It was great. So anyway, I caught the bus stopped at a red light and knocked on the door and the guy just shook his head at me. So I checked for the busses blinker and just started running the way it was turning. After another block or two of sprinting I found the next stop for the bus and made it just in time. I thanked the driving and wiped the sweat from my brow.

Then this morning I worked at 6am! All we did was move empty kegs from the basement to the street level and move the new kegs down to replace them. Not too bad… And I got a free breakfast out of it. Then we set up the restaurant and bar for the day and I was out of there at 9:30am. Next stop… Bed.

After my nap Lindy and I went to the beach to hang out as T and E left for work and continued working, respectively. Nice day and lots of sun and relaxation at the beach until a couple dogs started going crazy and got sand all over everything. All-in-all a fun day, though. Thanks for reading… Adios.

Shout out of the blog…

Pie – I’m so proud of you mom… reading blogs on the internet and posting comments, it must take you hours though (for how slow you type). Thanks for helping to set up the little online video conference thing the other night, it was great. Even though it didn’t work out perfectly, I still had fun talking to everyone and kind of seeing you guys. You’re the best. Love you.

  2. Ahhhhh Work, Ain't it the best? Lets see, 23 years old. 65 to retire. Now thats unthinkable. All in all it appeared you had a eventful first day. Did anything spill?
I did a couple short runs to Harrisburg Airport. One yesterday and one at 4am today. Nap time later. Couriering is very slow. They have not called me since v-ball ended. They did asure me of employment, just slow. I get my Trail Blazer friday. Then it goes in the paper for sale. If it does not sell, then I'll just keep it and drive it.
Sam got bitten by something again in the fields. He had hives all over his big body sunday. Had to take him to the dog emergency room. However they took so long there, I ended up going home with him untreated. His hives deminished some because the 4 Benedril's he got earlier on took effect. By evening he was back to normal except for sleeping a lot. Funny thing agout 4 Benedril's.
Monday night was fun talking, well stuttering to you. Everyone here had lots of fun, and the bible study went well too. Audry is going back out west to the dude ranch. Jen is.... well Jen. She has yet to move into her new house after 3 months ownership. Busy traveling to Virginia and coaching. She died her hair black. Looks good. Peter and Steph finally, finally have some living room furniture and even a rope carpet. Becky is looking to sell her new Pathfinder. Can't afford it. She bought a beater Pontiac and leaves the Pathfinder sit. Just pays for it. Hello, is anyone there???? Nik is really busy with shirt/stuff orders plus spending time for ABC Wheels at the auction and Erin is happy being done with v-ball, and playing a little. Teaching also tends to occupy her time somewhat.
I met with a man from France saturday morning about the possibility of purchasing classic exotic cars here and sending them to France and Switzerland. He is from NYC and has a exporting business with his brother in France. Interesting meeting. So he e-mailed me saturday for our first classic. He wants a 62-64 Fecal Vega II. Me either, never heard of it. Well they made 185 and sold them with a few coming to America. He apologized about such a tough find for the first car. He initially stated the need for older Porsche, Mustang, MG, Benz, Vettes, etc. Well I researched the Fecal Vega II and believe it or not found one in America. Actually found 2, but one was previously sold. We are now in a holding period to see if his french buyer is serious about spending $75k and shipping it to France. If nothing else, I made a believer out of the fellow, Nicholas by name.
Time for my morning constitutaional with Sam. The cold nose is nuzzling me. So....Later D.D.

  3. Hey Jesse,
Great blog once again! I can relate very easily to your restaurant work. I did that for many years as you know & loved it. It can be very stressful at times, but with your fun personality you'll have no problems. Once in awhile you'll have to contend with a crabby person, but it was always a challenge for me to change the mood of that person & it usually worked out by meals end. You should do very well tip wise too. Your fast too & I can just see you zooming around those tables.
Beautiful Fall weather here, 35-38 degrees in the a.m. hours this week.
We made a Costco run this morning. Always like going there to see whats new.
In a little while we're going to put white icickle lights all along
my porch railing. I'm decorating a little earlier because Thanksgiving is later this year. Is Thanksgiving celebrated down under?
Oh, I ment to tell you earlier, the wine you brought me was very good. We had it the other night with a shrimp & pasta dish.
Well that it for now, talk to you soon.
    Love you, Aunt Sandy

  4. Hi Jesse,

Just read your blog. Never thought I would be using that word (blog) Interesting to say the least.
guess you didn't receive my first blog, which I mentioned about the snowman in our back yard when Uncle David and Bronwyn were in clarks summit. It lasted a number of days before melting. Just wondering how thanksgiving is celebrated in Australia. Probably not at all. No Boxing DAY either?? We'will be having turkey day in Lancaster this year. I made meshi last week.I almost forgot all the directions for the ingredients, but my brain started to function after awhile. Poppy helped me roll the cabbages. That's the hardest past. I also cooked breast of lamb in the bottom of the pot to flavor the potful of meat and rice, etc. I'll have to teach you and Erin M,how to make Lebanese Lamb in the blankets when you get back from "down under" Hope Erin is doing well, by the way. Tell her hI .

Love Mom Mom. Now you have 2 blogs to answer

  5. Hey guys - thanks for the comments. Don't worry mom-mom, I've read both of your comments and just didn't get to respond to them directly yet. Brian and I will keep updating everyone on what's going on - I can't say the same for Erin and Taylor, but hopefully they'll get on the bandwagon too. Talk to you soon...
