It seems like I quite recently put some words to the screen, but I’ve got a couple things to say and Linder and T are already in bed (10:30pm on a Sunday night – their parents should be so proud) and Erin is still at work (4pm – close)… and there ya have it, I’m blogging while watching some cable TV movie [Outbreak – never heard of it but Dustin Hoffman, Kevin Spacey, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Morgan Freeman are in it according to the credits, so it may be watchable after all].
Bam, what have I for you today? Well… funny you should ask. Erin and I went to church this morning at 11am. It was the Hillsong church (the one with the guy that my mom heard speak somewhere and she said he was fantastic) so we went to check it out. Just our luck, but the guy who my mom heard speak wasn’t speaking today because today was their 25 year celebration. Some guy from South Carolina spoke instead and he was pretty good. He was by far the highlight of the service as I did not care much for the laser light show, smoke machines, and otherwise concert-like atmosphere for the first 45 minutes. They continually referred to the huge celebration tonight at the harbor that was going to be “amazing and awesome”. I gathered from the snippets that there was fun to be had by all including, but not limited to, laser skirmishes, fireworks, jet-boating, and other fun activities. It kind of sounded like a carnival and probably would have been fun to attend. All-in-all I’d say this particular church experience was a good one because we realized it’s almost definitely not the church we’d stick with and I’ve looked up another couple that are not only closer, but from their descriptions on google… less commercialized and media-ized. Incidentally, what exactly does Anglican mean? There’s an Anglican church nearby with some sweet services for young people that I’d like to check out… thanks for the info.
Next I’d like to discuss the upcoming election. Nothing too political from me, but we’re all very excited about it here at 597 New South Head and therefore it should be in the blog somewhere. We’ve been keeping up to date by checking cnn and other news websites… as well as watching Tina Fey on Saturday Night Live. It seems like Obama has it all locked up, but honestly who can say for certain? Remember that one time they printed those newspapers with Truman – anything can happen – but we really hope it doesn’t. You should hear people here in Australia. People want Obama to win so badly. It’s surprisingly similar to the US here because so many people are concerned with the election, which is so strange when you think about it. I mean I guess it makes sense when the President of the United States is the leader of the entire free world and by connection the world as a whole (which Australia is a part of). I’ve also been watching Australian government television from time to time, which is just video of the parliament in session. It is very similar to British parliament and consequently superbly entertaining. The Aus Prime Minister is so smart and well-spoken (and has to be because anyone can ask him any question they want to and he has to answer it). I’d love to see Bush in a situation like that, or better yet Biden or Palin.
Handball tomorrow night – I’m psyched. I think tomorrow will be the last practice we go to for a while because they have exams coming soon and cancel practice for two or three weeks. I guess I’ll have to try to find some other way to stay in shape. We’ve spent so much time job hunting and doing other things inside that our tans are really struggling right now. I can’t wait until I actually get a job so I can have a set schedule so I can start getting out to the beach and getting my tan and surf on.
Shout out of the day…
Bskins – haha, you’re vegan. I laughed so hard when I heard about Hof’s response. Alright – the real reason I had to give you the shout out isn’t just to make fun of you, it is because I heard that song… punk rock girl with flowers in her hair… you know the one. Anyway, I heard it while I was in Target and I absolutely lost it. I laughed so hard and now I can’t get it out of my head. I wonder if it is a popular song in other countries or if somehow their playlist got corrupted with it. Anyway, that’s what I’ve got for ya kid. We’re working on big plans for December 30th – January 11th. Woot!
Hold it down in the old US of A for us…

Jess, Too bad the church wasn't better. I'm glad you and Erin are stilll going to keep on looking. How was handball prac? Yeah you def. have to keep working on your tan-I mean why else go to Australia? Your blogs are a riot! Just like you. I miss your funny, crazy personality. Love you, Pie
ReplyDeleteJB, Exciting about the job. Glad it worked out. Thanks for bailing me out last night. Only hope it wasn't too late. Guess only time will tell. Yes I voted today and there were many people voting. Got rid of a car last night and have the Suburban to move. That will happen by thanksgiving. The car last night was sold to a struggling black single gal with 3 little kids. New City Life Church had called me to find the car. She was so excited. Said "it feels like I just won the lottery". She could hardly control herself, hugging and jumping all around. How cool is that? Makes a body feel good. This friday maybe I will buy one to turn it around. Mom is not too excited about that thought.
ReplyDeleteMom and Jemmy and dogs are walking then its pancake night. Yep, we are having breakfast for dinner. Oh and I watched another episode of Fringe on my 17" computer. But thats basically for those followers who might need a good laugh, Garrett. Still uncertain why that was such a hit, but am glad it was.
Will certainly watch the presidential voting returns tonight. No news yet however. Looks like Obama might just slide right in there.
So church was one big spectacle huh? Anglican by definition right out of Websters is: "of the Angles, England", of the church of England or any related church with the same faith and forms. So there you are Vern. Try the Anglican and let us know what you think. Probably will not be similar to catholic, more like lutheran I would guess because of the reformations and all. Calvin and Luthor probably had a lot to do with the anglican churches.
The Eagles are playing better right now. They have NY Giants this week. Will be a good game. The Cowboys are the laughting stock of the NFL right now. And TO is keeping his big mouth shut. The Phillies had their big parade last week. Nice for the Philadelphia fans to finally have a champ. Penn State is still no. 3 even though no. 1 Texas lost to then no.6 Texas Tech. TT jumped right over them to no. 2 and Bama is no. 1. Hempfield girls vball won another district title saturday. Vogel is leaving after this year I think. He is not sure if he is doing the boys season. He has a real job and new girlfriend now. Seems his priorities have changed. Poor Ellen. (old wife) Also going to states is Penn Manor and Garden Spot.
Time out- Have to go get dinner/breakfast. Good stuff.
Aunt Sandy is now on the road to go squirrel with Woody. They will be dry camping. Yeah right, in their 31' 5th wheel trailer with a generater, heat, water, toilet, TV, beer and wine and any other nicety that comes with a big all enclosed trailer. They certainly do care a bunch for each other. Good.
Thats it for this time, so, later, DD

ReplyDeleteYou know I love that song!!! Thats pretty crazy it was playing in a Target in Australia though, who would have expected that?
We just bought tickets to a concert in the same place we same MCR. So until Dec. 11 I will be spending most of my time listening to the Killers, Death Cab, Jack's Mannequin, Bloc Party, and Franz Ferdinand. I'm really excited for it but it just won't be the same without you rocking out next to me and stone.

Hey Jesse, this is a trail run. Sometimes my comments don't go through & it makes me mad after I've written a long & newsy blog.
ReplyDeleteHi again, looks like it went through. Sometimes my computer really gets to me.
ReplyDeleteNow I will write all of my fun news over again. (oh I see I spelled trial wrong!)
We had the best time up in the Coconino National Forrest along the Mogollon Rim. It was crystal clear & 10-12 degrees each morning. It was nice to experience Winter once again & we dressed for it.
When we left Dewey it was quite the picture. Woody's nice Dodge truck, pulling our fifth wheel & behind that pulling a smaller trailer hauling the Teyrx. Boy is that a fun ride. We rode 100 miles & its the only way to hunt squirrels. Woody did get five & such excitement being with him hunting. Loved it!
We also hauled oak back to our camp site, the wood of choice because it burns hot & long. Had a camp fire each night.
We didn't hear any news & had no cell service while gone & you know it was rether nice too. Didn't know who the president elect was until we got home.
We probably won't go anywhere now until after the holidays. Thanksgiving is my favorite & am excited for it to get here.
Glad to hear you landed a job & will be anxious to all about it time goes by. Will talk to you soon.
Love you, Aunt Sandy
P.s. Your blogs are great & enjoy reading the cmments too.
That sounds like so much, fun Aunt Sandy. My mom mentioned you helped skin the squirrels, did you eat them then too? Or just save the skins? Do people eat squirrels? I Imagine they must... if they're worth hunting then they're probably worth eating. I love thanksgiving and am so bummed it isn't celebrated at all here. We'll have to make a huge turkey and celebrate anyway.
